#TotA Day 5 - Last call: Levico Terme hosts a thrilling final stage

Good morning from the Tour of the Alps’ last stage! Today is the day: a super intense route (118,6 Km with start and finish in Levico Terme, Trentino) might bring any surprise, also taking stock of the short gap between the leader of the Green Jersey Melinda, Juan Pedro Lopez, and his main rivals for the overall win.

Behind the Lidl-Trek athlete, O’Connor is runner-up at 38” ahead of Tiberi, Poels, Bardet and Paret Peintré at 48”. The Valle dei Mocheni’s ring (to repeat twice), characterized by the Palù del Versina KOM, in addition to the last climb of the 2024 #TotA, Valico di Tenna, leaves enough chance to upset, a worthy finish of this uncertain Tour of the Alps’ edition.

Friday is also the day of the Top Ride promoted by the Tour of the Alps on the morning of the last stage, a special networking event featuring authorities such as Trentino's President Maurizio Fugatti, celebrities, and former champions: an initiative to create and consolidate new synergies and links. 

Stage 5 route kicks off with an undulating loop of about 20 kilometers, with the peloton crossing the finish line twice in Levico Terme. After that, the peloton tackles a much different second loop of about 25 kilometers, winding through the Valle dei Mocheni.

The lopp features the long and regular climb toward Palù del Fersina, which will be ridden twice, with a long downhill in the middle. Following the second descent, a flat segment takes the pack to the race’s last climb, the Valico di Tenna, followed by a false flat that ends with about five kilometers to go. The majority of these final five kilometers is downhill, yet the last kilometer in Levico Terme climbs once more to offer a grand finale worthy of the 2024 Tour of the Alps.

START: LEVICO TERME. Levico Terme, nestled between the majestic Dolomites and the verdant hills of Trentino, stands out as an Alpine jewel graced by natural wellness. Its vibrant heart is the thermal baths, a haven of relaxation surrounded by stunning scenery. The mineral-rich thermal waters offer relief and rejuvenation for both body and mind.

ON THE ROAD: Caldonazzo extends over a wide plain between its namesake lake, orchards painting the land green, and the lively Centa stream, offering numerous trekking paths on the slopes of Mount Cimone and beach resorts, free beaches, and countless campsites along the lake shores for a summer in European Blue Flag-certified waters.

THE STAGE TASTE: Matching enogastronomic and sports tourism can be a winning combination: in Valsugana Lagorai, one can explore local products steeped in tradition, authenticity, and quality. The typical Treccia Mochena of Caneza becomes a truly unique dessert with the magical touch of those involved in its making, featuring a special custard made of blueberries and a secret recipe.

DON'T MISS: Although just twenty kilometers from Trento, entering the Mocheni Valley feels like venturing far into a wild and abstract space. This valley remains pristine, spared from mass tourism. Life still flows around the 'hoff,' the farms that were once the pivot of the valley's subsistence economy and the center of family bonds.

FINISH: LEVICO TERME. The atmosphere in Levico Terme still recalls the belle époque when European nobility frequented this celebrated spa town in Valsugana. Bridging historical epochs, the 'Lupa del Lagorai' sculpture, crafted from 2000 pieces of wood left by the Vaia storm by artist Marco Martalar, now stands majestically over the valley.
