FC Südtirol and the Tour of the Alps join forces to promote sport and sustainable mobility. The Italian Serie B side and the Euroregional UCI ProSeries stage race will create their first joint initiative on Saturday, March 16th, on the occasion of the football game in Bozen/Bolzano versus Cremonese. It will be a special bike day, with fans invited to cycle to the stadium, with the offer of free guarded bike parking, giveaways and incentives for the riding fans.
In cycling competitions, there’s only one winner, but there’s no winning without team. Teamwork and alliances are part of the Tour of the Alps’ DNA, as demonstrated by the alliance among Tirol, Südtirol/Alto Adige, and Trentino, the leading partners of the project coordinated by GS Alto Garda. The 47th edition of the Tour of the Alps will be held from April 15th to 19th.
Hence, when Tour of the Alps met one of the main team sports entities in the Euroregion, FC Südtirol, the Italian Serie B football team based in Bozen/Bolzano, it was easy to find common ground.
Sustainable mobility and the special combination of biking and football represent valuable elements for FC Südtirol. The South Tyrolean club and the Tour of the Alps are part of the same territory, involving in this project the Südtirol/Alto Adige, Trentino, and Tirol.
In view of the upcoming #TotA, FC Südtirol and Tour of the Alps inaugurate a collaboration and co-marketing relationship aimed at promoting sports at every level as well as sustainable mobility, with cycling in first place. This collaboration will unfold within the Druso stadium as well as on the roads of the Euroregion.
On March 16th, the football club and the cycling event have organized a special Bike Day, when all fans will be invited to reach the Druso Stadium by bike. The event is organized in collaboration with the Bozen/Bolzano Committee of the Italian Cycling Federation and with the patronage of the Municipality of Bozen/Bolzano.
Starting from 11:00 AM (kick-off is at 2:00 PM), a free guarded bike parking will be available in the Lido Area next to the Druso Stadium, from the Viale Trieste side. Upon leaving the bike, fans will get a receipt valid for a free non-alcoholic beverage, but also special giveaways and gadgets from the Tour of the Alps and its partners at the booth located inside the stadium, by the Zanvettor grandstand.
To all the fans who arrive by bike, FC Südtirol will offer a special discounted ticket for the Serie B home game against Cittadella on Saturday, April 20th. To ensure quicker and smoother proceedings, online pre-registration at www.fc-suedtirol.com/bikeday is recommended.
More initiatives will take place during the match, while outside the stadium, the Bozen/Bolzano Committee of the Italian Cycling Federation will set up a special course for kids and youngsters to have fun with their bikes during the game.
During the Tour of the Alps, especially on the days in Südtirol/Alto Adige, FC Südtirol will be in the spotlight too. The football club will participate in the eve day of Sunday, April 14th in Neumarkt/Egna, while FC Südtirol's captain Fabian Tait will be a special guest of the stage 2 start in his home town, Salurn adW/Salorno sSdV, and exchange his game jersey with the Tour of the Alps’ overall leader at the end of stage 1.
A fun activity dedicated to football and FC Südtirol will then take place at the start, involving both the athletes and the fans.
"We are proud to promote initiatives like these, with an important partner like the Tour of the Alps and with the patronage of the Municipality of Bozen/Bolzano," said Hannes Fischnaller, Chief Operating Officer of FC Südtirol. "We are committed to promoting sustainable mobility, and this initiative is intended to raise awareness among spectators, both youngsters and adults. Cycling to the Druso Stadium is already a well-established habit for many, and it could become a functional way to reach the stadium for all".
"The theme of sustainable mobility is at the center of all initiatives of the Mobility Department of the Municipality of Bozen/Bolzano, aimed at reducing motor traffic in the city. The Municipality of Bozen/Bolzano is keen to back initiatives like the one at the Druso stadium, aimed at promoting conscious mobility choices among fans, while encouraging to reduce the use of private cars," stated Stefano Fattor, the Mobility Councillor of the Municipality of Bozen/Bolzano.
"Partnerships and initiatives like this demonstrate how the Tour of the Alps is truly more than just an event; it is a platform of values, as outlined in Tour of the Alps' Memorandum of Understanding" explains Giacomo Santini, President of GS Alto Garda. "Our goal, from the very beginning, has been to convey messages that go beyond the race, to promote an idea of mobility, sportsmanship, and lifestyle that we believe in. We were delighted to find in FC Südtirol this same philosophy and willingness to collaborate, connecting two of the most popular sports in the area.”
