Cards on the table: #TotA set to dazzle the Euro-region

The 48th Tour of the Alps unveiled the stars of its 2025 edition (April 21–25) in Trento. The last three winners—Bardet, Geoghegan Hart, and Lopez—are set to return, while Italy and Austria lead the charge with Tiberi, Ciccone, and Gall, alongside 2022 Giro winner Hindley. Two hours of daily live coverage in over 100 countries and a packed calendar of side events await

The beauty of cycling finds its home in the Euro-region of Tirol-Südtirol/Alto Adige-Trentino. Its history is rich with iconic events—from legendary Giro d’Italia stages to the 2018 Road World Championships in Innsbruck and the 2021 European Championships in Trento. Today, the Tour of the Alps stands as a beacon of cross-border cooperation and a shared identity built on mountains, culture, and a love for cycling.

More than just a race—that’s not a motto, but a mission. Since 2017, GS Alto Garda has made the Tour of the Alps a celebration of synergy between Tirol, Südtirol/Alto Adige, and Trentino, offering five thrilling stages and a vibrant programme of side events for all ages. It’s a tribute to community, sustainability, and a sport that thrives on human connection.

The 48th edition kicks off on Sunday, April 20 in San Lorenzo Dorsino, Trentino, with Stage 1 set for Monday the 21st. The finale will play out on Friday, April 25 in Lienz, Osttirol (East Tirol), after two high-octane stages in Südtirol/Alto Adige.

Unveiled today, Wednesday, April 9, at Trentino Marketing HQ in Trento, the 2025 edition showcased an all-star line-up, top-tier broadcast coverage reaching over 100 Countries thanks to Infront Sports & Media, and a growing roster of partners and side events.

TWO HOURS OF LIVE BROADCAST EVERY DAY

Thanks to the renewed partnership with Infront Sports & Media for media rights and production, the Tour of the Alps will once again deliver two hours of daily live coverage, broadcast to over 100 Countries worldwide.

Viewers across Europe and Asia can tune in via Eurosport. In Italy and Austria, the race will be broadcast by Rai and ORF respectively. FloSports will serve North American fans, while L’Équipe TV brings the action to France and, for the first time, Sports5 will air the race in Israel. EBU News and NOS will further distribute highlights throughout Europe and the Netherlands.

A WIDE-OPEN RACE: LOPEZ, TIBERI, GEOGHEGAN HART, HINDLEY & MORE

Among the 16 teams at the start in San Lorenzo Dorsino on Monday, April 21, eight belong to the UCI WorldTour, joined by five ProTeams, the Austrian national team, and two Continental outfits: Japan’s JCL Team UKYO and Austria’s Team Vorarlberg.

All three of the last Tour of the Alps winners will be on the start line: Romain Bardet (2022), Tao Geoghegan Hart (2023), and defending champion Juan Pedro Lopez (2024). The Spaniard, wearing bib number 1, will try to defend his Melinda Green Jersey with Lidl-Trek, supported by a powerhouse squad also featuring Giulio Ciccone and two-time TotA stage winner Lennard Kämna.

Italy’s hopes also rest on Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain-Victorious), third overall and best young rider in 2024. Inspired by Vincenzo Nibali, he eyes the green jersey—and maybe even the Giro's pink.

Austria, without a win since 1985, will be looking to Felix Gall (Decathlon-AG2R), a climber with home-road advantage in Lienz.

Red Bull-Bora Hansgrohe will field Giro d’Italia 2022 winner Jai Hindley, while Jayco-AlUla counts on climbers Eddie Dunbar and Chris Harper. Israel-Premier Tech blends youth and experience with Gee, Riccitello, Fuglsang, and the return of four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome.

EF Education-EasyPost rallies behind 2023 runner-up Hugh Carthy. Team Picnic PostNL backs 2022 winner Bardet in one of his career's final races, reuniting the 2022 podium with Michael Storer (Tudor) and Thymen Arensman (INEOS Grenadiers).

BEYOND THE RACE: SIDE EVENTS AND A TRIBUTE TO SARA PIFFER

From its early editions, the Tour of the Alps has sought to connect with people, conveying the shared values of its territories and offering more than just elite competition.

Pre-race events included the Community Ride in Bozen/Bolzano led by young pro Mattia Stenico (VF Group-Bardiani) and Ride&Dunk, a collaboration with Italian Serie A Aquila Basket Trento and Trentino Marketing promoting road safety and sustainable mobility.

On Sunday, April 20, San Lorenzo Dorsino will host a full day of festivities culminating in the team presentation at 5 PM at the Teatro Comunale—an open invitation to meet the stars of the race.

On Tuesday, April 22 in Mezzolombardo, the race will honor the memory of Sara Piffer, a promising cyclist from Palù di Giovo who tragically died during a training ride in January at just 19. Her passing has reignited national debate on road safety and shared responsibility.

A full programme of community events will run throughout the race week. Details available at tourofthealps.eu.

ROUVY & FANTACYCLING: A NEW ERA OF FAN ENGAGEMENT

This year, fans around the world can get even closer to the race thanks to interactive platforms.

From April 21 to June 1, the #LiveUphill Challenge returns to Rouvy, in partnership with Endu. Riders can tackle the final kilometres of each stage on smart trainers at home—and those who complete all five routes can win exclusive TotA prizes.

New in 2025, FantaCycling joins as a partner, offering a dedicated fantasy league, free of charge for registered users, where users compete based on real-world race results. Winners will receive TotA-branded prizes.

FantaCycling will also broadcast daily live shows from the race on YouTube and Twitch, offering a fresh perspective and building deeper fan connections.

INFRONT EXPANDS THE PARTNER NETWORK

Würth brands the Red Jersey (Points Classification), and FORST supports the White Jersey (Best U25 Rider). Jerseys are once again crafted by Alé Cycling, blending performance with Italian style.

La Gazzetta dello Sport and Radio VivaFM continue their strategic media partnership with the event.

Also returning are two standout hospitality initiatives: the Bike Experience (April 24–26 in Südtirol/Alto Adige and Osttirol) and the Top Ride for VIPs and former champions, with #TotA ambassadors Daniel Oss and Lukas Pöstlberger among the guests.

New in 2025: Easter in San Lorenzo Dorsino, a premium package offering a unique family-friendly stay in one of Italy’s most beautiful villages during the race start.

TRENTINO SHINES WITH SAN LORENZO DORSINO AND MEZZOLOMBARDO

The 48th Tour of the Alps starts from Trentino with a hidden gem—San Lorenzo Dorsino. Nestled in the Paganella region beneath the Brenta Dolomites, this picturesque village, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, plays host to Stage 1.

The opening 148.5 km loop follows the classic “Giro del Brenta” route, very popular among local amateurs, featuring climbs to Andalo, Passo Campo Carlo Magno, and Passo del Durone. The final 9 km ascent is irregular, with gradients peaking at 7–8% near the summit.

Stage 2 begins in the wine-rich region of Mezzolombardo and heads north into Südtirol/Alto Adige, finishing in Sterzing/Vipiteno–Ratschings/Racines. At 178 km and 3,750 m of elevation, it’s the longest stage and the on with the highest elevation gain.
