San Lorenzo Dorsino welcomes riders and teams: Lidl-Trek targets back-to-back wins at #TotA

A cycling-packed Easter weekend arrives in Trentino with the kickoff of the 48th Tour of the Alps (21–25 April). On Sunday, the team presentation and pre-race press conference will spotlight the top contenders, ahead of Monday’s official start. All eyes will be on the U.S.-based Lidl-Trek squad, featuring defending champion Juan Pedro Lopez alongside Giulio Ciccone, Lennard Kämna, and Tao Geoghegan Hart – winner of #TotA 2023 and the 2020 Giro d’Italia

Another exciting week of top-notch cycling is just around the corner on the roads of the Euregio. From Monday 21st to Friday 25th April, the Tour of the Alps will put on a show as top riders tackle the breathtaking scenery of Tirol, Südtirol/Alto Adige and Trentino. The wonderful village of San Lorenzo Dorsino in Trentino will host the start of the 48th edition and is gearing up for an intense and exciting Easter Sunday.

Lidl-Trek, led by reigning champion Juan Pedro Lopez, will start with big ambitions to win the second Melinda Green Jersey in a row. Alongside the 27-year-old Spaniard will be Italy's Giulio Ciccone, Germany's Lennard Kämna - a two-time stage winner at the Tour of the Alps (Niederdorf/Villabassa in 2022 and San Valentino di Brentonico in 2023) – and another former winner: Tao Geoghegan Hart. The British rider, who won #TotA 2023 and the 2020 Giro d'Italia, is coming off a tough season and will be looking to rediscover his best form on the Euregio roads.

Juan Pedro Lopez will also be among the headliners at the pre-race press conference scheduled for 4pm, along with Jay Hindley (Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe), Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious) and Felix Gall (Decathlon-AG2R).

The list of potential GC contenders also includes Romain Bardet (Picnic-PostNL), Eddie Dunbar (Jayco-AlUla), Thymen Arensman (INEOS Grenadiers), Hugh Carthy (EF Education-EasyPost) and Israel-Premier Tech's Derek Gee, who will be joined by four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome.

On Easter Sunday, at 5.00 PM, fans can look forward to the most awaited moment of the day: the teams presentation, open to the public, in the Teatro Comunale of San Lorenzo Dorsino. The riders from the 16 teams taking part on Monday, April 21 - a 148.5km race course that starts and finishes in San Lorenzo Dorsino - will take their turns on stage. The stage 1 route follows the classic Giro del Brenta route, much loved by local cycling enthusiasts, and features a challenging elevation profile with KOM points at Campo Carlo Magno and Passo del Durone before the final climb back to San Lorenzo Dorsino. The race will feature eight World Tour teams, five Pro Continental teams, two Continental teams, and the Austrian National Team.

Right from the opening day, the Tour of the Alps will be full of fan involvement, with entertainment from #TotA media partner Radio Viva FM and a whole day of music and local flavours. After the team presentation, at 9.00 pm, the Teatro Comunale in San Lorenzo Dorsino will host the presentation of the book "Vicini alle Nuvole" featuring Eurosport Italy commentators Luca Gregorio, Moreno Moser, and Riccardo Magrini (joining remotely).

The Euro-regional stage race will be broadcast in over 100 Countries, offering two hours of live coverage each day and bringing the captivating atmosphere of the Alps to millions of households. This is made possible by the long-standing partnership with Infront Sports & Media, which oversees media and marketing rights as well as television production.

Cycling fans across Europe and Asia can tune in via Eurosport. In Italy and Austria, coverage will be provided by Rai and ORF respectively. FloSports caters to viewers in North America, while L’Équipe TV will air the race in France. For the first time, Sports5 brings the event to audiences in Israel. Highlights will also be distributed across Europe and the Netherlands via EBU News and NOS.
