The Alps come alive: San Lorenzo Dorsino to open the 2025 #TotA

On Monday, April 21, the UCI ProSeries event organized by GS Alto Garda sets off from Trentino. Today, San Lorenzo Dorsino welcomes the race caravan with the team presentation and a press conference featuring top contenders—Tiberi, Hindley, Gall, and reigning champion Lopez. Stage 1 (San Lorenzo Dorsino – San Lorenzo Dorsino, 148.5 km) will be broadcast live from 13:30

It’s an Easter Sunday of top-tier cycling in San Lorenzo Dorsino, the charming Trentino village nestled in the heart of the Paganella area at the southeastern foot of the Brenta Dolomites. The town is playing host to both the eve and the official start of the 48th edition of the Tour of the Alps (April 21–25).

Monday, April 21 marks the first stage—a 148.5 km loop beginning and ending in San Lorenzo Dorsino. The route follows the iconic Giro del Brenta, with climbs through Andalo, Campo Carlo Magno, and Passo del Durone. Meanwhile, Easter Sunday (April 20) sets the tone for the euro-regional stage race with a lively prologue of events.

At 14:00, the historic centre of San Lorenzo Dorsino comes to life with preliminary festivities leading up to the highlight of the day: the team presentation. At 17:00, inside the Teatro Comunale, riders and teams will be introduced on stage one by one. First up: EF Education–EasyPost. Closing the show: Lidl–Trek, led by defending champion Juan Pedro Lopez.

At 16:15, just 45 minutes earlier, the first official press conference of #TotA 2025 will take place. At the table: last year’s winner Lopez, joined by three of his key challengers—Antonio Tiberi (Bahrain Victorious), Jay Hindley (Red Bull–BORA–Hansgrohe), and Austrian Felix Gall (Decathlon AG2R), who hopes to shine in the grand finale in Lienz, backed by his home crowd.

This high-profile showdown has already piqued the curiosity of fans eager to see who will wear the Melinda Green Jersey after five intense days of racing. Lidl–Trek heads into Trentino with a formidable line-up—not only Lopez, but also Italian climber Giulio Ciccone, Germany’s Lennard Kämna (stage winner in Villabassa and San Valentino di Brentonico in 2022 and 2023), and Britain’s Tao Geoghegan Hart, 2023 #TotA champion and 2020 Giro d’Italia winner.

The remaining seven WorldTeams are just as eager to make their presence felt. Bahrain Victorious backs team leader Antonio Tiberi with the veteran support of Damiano Caruso. Red Bull–BORA–Hansgrohe fields 2022 Giro d’Italia winner Jay Hindley. Romain Bardet, in one of the final outings of his career, leads Picnic–PostNL, supported by Dutchman Max Poole—white jersey at #TotA 2023. Edward Dunbar (Jayco AlUla), Felix Gall (Decathlon AG2R), Thymen Arensman (INEOS Grenadiers), and Hugh Carthy (EF Education–EasyPost) round out the captains’ list for their respective squads.

Alongside these top-tier teams, the Tour of the Alps welcomes a competitive slate of ProTeams. Michael Storer, runner-up at #TotA 2022, leads the Tudor Cycling Team. Israel–Premier Tech fields a WorldTour-calibre squad, with veterans Chris Froome and Jakob Fuglsang mentoring Canadian Derek Gee (4th at Tirreno–Adriatico), Italy’s Marco Frigo, and rising U.S. star Matthew Riccitello—5th overall at last year’s Tour de Suisse in his debut pro season.

Also lining up are the three Italian ProTeams—VF Group–Bardiani CSF–Faizané, Team Polti VisitMalta, and Solution Tech Vini Fantini—alongside two Continental teams, Team Vorarlberg and Team Ukyo, as well as the Austrian National Team.
