On Thursday evening, November 21st, the Congress Center in Riva del Garda hosted the presentation of the 48th Tour of the Alps, scheduled for April 21-25, 2025.
Before an exceptional gathering of guests, G.S. Alto Garda unveiled a route comprising five stages, spanning 739 kilometers with 14,700 meters of elevation gain, which will traditionally wind through the Tirol-Südtirol/Alto Adige-Trentino Euroregion, starting from San Lorenzo Dorsino and ending in Lienz.
Riva del Garda welcomed an impressive array of attendees, including UCI President David Lappartient, UEC President Enrico Della Casa, AIOCC President Christian Prudhomme and global cycling event organizers — who will reconvene on Friday, November 22nd, at the same Congress Center for the annual AIOCC Assembly. The presentation also drew representatives from territorial authorities, stage venues, and political, sporting, and military officials.
Here are the reactions from the Congress Center in Riva del Garda:
David Lappartient (UCI President): "Year after year, this prestigious competition continues to grow, cementing its ideal position in the cycling calendar. The consistent presence of top riders is a testament to the significance of this stage race. The collaboration between Italian and Austrian federations, uniting two extraordinary regions, represents a rare and valuable model—few races worldwide can boast such synergy between two nations. We are particularly pleased to be in Trentino for this presentation and the AIOCC assembly: a region rich in cycling passion, both road and MTB, which has put forward its candidacy for the 2031 World Championships. Congratulations on your achievements, and I wish this event even greater success in the future."
Enrico Della Casa (UEC President): "I reaffirm what I stated last year: the Tour of the Alps is ready to step up to the World Tour. This is a race that the UCI watches with great interest, and we aim to elevate it to the next level with the upcoming calendar reforms. This event is more than just a race—it's a bridge connecting peoples, cultures, and two extremely dynamic federations that collaborate in exemplary fashion."
Christian Prudhomme (AIOCC President and Tour de France Director): "The Tour of the Alps stages are extraordinary, and you know how to showcase your magnificent landscapes, offering genuine mountains and authentic emotions. I am delighted to be here: it's the first time in almost twenty years that I've seen such broad participation from organizers before the AIOCC general assembly, so I thank you for making this occasion possible. Organizing races is no easy task: many have the privilege of doing it professionally, but there are also those who take on the challenge driven by pure passion. To you all, my sincere gratitude and best wishes for the future."
Cordiano Dagnoni (Italian Cycling Federation President): "The Tour of the Alps represents an exemplary model that should inspire many others. For seven years, this stage race has served as a bridge between regions and nations, establishing itself as a unique event in modern cycling. Moreover, its strategic calendar position attracts numerous high-caliber athletes, ensuring a remarkable level of participation."
Harald Mayer (Austrian Cycling Federation President): “The Tour of the Alps stands as a cornerstone of Austrian cycling, setting international benchmarks year after year. As one of Austria's premier cycling events, it serves not only as a proving ground for our athletes but also as a model of excellence for event organizers. Beyond being a flagship event for its three host regions, it represents the sporting excellence of both host nations. The Tour's significance extends well beyond racing—it showcases cycling as a vital catalyst for tourism across these three regions, delivering unparalleled international exposure and promotional value”.
