#TotA Day 4 - The action restarts from Osttirol: a demanding stage in Obertilliach could reshape the GC

Tour of the Alps' stage 4 is scheduled for today. The riders will set off from Sillian and, after covering 162.7 km, will finish in Obertilliach, passing through Sesto Pusteria — Jannik Sinner's hometown. Michael Storer, wearing the Melinda Green jersey, will have to defend his lead against a host of rivals

Good morning from the Tour of the Alps! On Thursday, April 24, the euro-regional stage race features stage 4, starting in Sillian and finishing in Obertilliach after 162.7 km.

It’s a challenging stage with a finish open to all kinds of interpretations — a key day as the #TotA arrives in Osttirol, where the battle between the contenders for the Melinda Green Jersey is set to intensify.

Aussie Michael Storer (Tudor Pro Cycling) leads the general classification by 41 seconds over Giulio Ciccone and Paul Seixas (Decathlon–AG2R), 45 seconds over Jai Hindley and Felix Gall, and 47 seconds over Romain Bardet (Picnic–PostNL).

The Tour of the Alps departs from Sillian in Osttirol, for what’s billed by many as the queen stage, finishing in Obertilliach after 162.7 km.

After crossing back into Italy, riders will tackle the climb to Lago di Misurina. A long descent leads to the demanding Passo Sant’Antonio, followed by the more gradual Kreuzbergpass/Passo Monte Croce Comelico. The race then heads back into Austria, passing through Sexten/Sesto Pusteria – home of Tennis ATP ranking’s #1 Jannik Sinner – before a punishing finale.

The last section includes the KOM to Anras, followed by the Tessenberg climb and the Kartitscher Sattel – the latter featuring a brutal central section. Cresting 7 km from the line, the descent leads to a slightly downhill approach to the final kilometer. From just past the biathlon center, the road climbs again at 4–5% to the finish in the heart of Obertilliach.

START: SILLIAN. Mountain lakes, gentle slopes, and rustic Alpine pastures welcome visitors to Sillian in Hochpustertal/ Alta Pusteria, where outdoor enthusiasts - especially families - enjoy unforgettable summer holidays. Activities range from challenging MTB routes to surrounding peaks to leisurely cycle tours along the Drau river. Excellent infrastructure and numerous scenic rest stops complete the holiday experience in this gentle gateway to the Dolomites.

ON THE ROAD: The charming village of Anras perches on Hochpustertal/ Alta Pusteria's sun-drenched plateau, offering spectacular panoramic views. Historically known as Pustertal's "granary," the area has balanced modern tourism development while preserving its natural beauty and authentic character, now featuring contemporary accommodations.

THE STAGE TASTE: Pregler, Osttirol's protected fruit brandy designation, distills local apples and pears. This spirit embodies rural tradition, representing an authentic Osttirol specialty crafted using time-honored methods.

DON'T MISS: Hochpustertal/ Alta Pusteria offers exceptional cycling experiences, notably the Drau cycle path - among Austria's finest routes. Whether riding from the young Drau's source toward Lienz or completing the full journey from Sillian to Marburg, cyclists travel through consistently impressive natural landscapes.

FINISH: OBERTILLIACH. Standing at 1,450 meters above sea level, Obertilliach crowns Osttirol’s Lesachtal valley. The landscape alternates between picturesque alpine meadows and rugged limestone cliffs topped by forested ridges. Southern weather patterns gift the municipality with Mediterranean-like conditions, particularly during summer months.
