When cycling meets basketball: "Ride & Dunk" celebrates sports in Trento
The special initiative by Tour of the Alps, Aquila Basket Trento, and Trentino Marketing involved athletes and enthusiasts of all ages on Sunday, March 30, doubling down on aspects like road safety and sustainable mobility
Tour of the Alps 2025 (April 21-25) is ready to bring once again top cycling and stunning landscapes to fans and enthusiasts all over the world. Even though the official depart from San Lorenzo Dorsino is still three weeks away, the euro-regional race spanning through Trentino, Südtirol/Alto Adige and Tirol has already been buzzing. Thanks to the many side events, initiatives and collaborations with the three regions, local authorities and stage venues, the #TotA is bringing its mark way beyond the cycling world. And that’s what happened yesterday, March 30, in Trento, alongside the headline match of the Serie A LBA Basketball League between Aquila Basket Trento and Germani Brescia.
The game, played at the "Il T Quotidiano Arena", became the "Ride & Dunk" day: a special initiative promoted by the Trentino basketball club, Tour of the Alps, and Trentino Marketing, in collaboration with the local authorities of the Italian Cycling Federation. An event celebrating sport in all its forms, and involving audiences of all ages in cycling, sustainable mobility, and road safety related activities.
The day kicked off with a morning bike ride featured, among others, by the 1988 cycling World Champion in Renaix, Maurizio Fondriest. In the afternoon, bike enthusiasts gathered at the Aquila Basket headquarters in Trento, where a fan zone for cycling lovers was set.

Particularly popular was the educational course aimed at teaching riding techniques and road safety principles for bikers. Among the brands in the fan zone, entertained by the radio partner VivaFM, was Trentino and its great variety of cycling offer. Beside the Tour of the Alps there’s also Giro d'Italia, and the UCI MTB World Series in Val di Fassa (Enduro) and Val di Sole (Cross Country and Downhill). The latter was also present in Trento with gadgets and promotions ahead of the upcoming event on June 20-22 in Daolasa di Commezzadura.
With the game approaching, all fans headed together to the “Il T Quotidiano Arena”, where Trento and Brescia engaged in a tough and exciting game, won by the away team 78 to 75. During the first break, the Tour of the Alps took the spotlight presenting the 2025 four official leader jerseys, featuring a special choreography and the participation of representatives from four youth clubs from the territory.
“The collaboration and friendship with Aquila Basket and Trentino Marketing allowed us to experience a truly special day—one where the real winner was not just sport itself, but a broader vision of sport, one that goes beyond results and scoreboards,” said Giacomo Santini, President of GS Alto Garda. “On behalf of our entire organization, I extend heartfelt thanks to the amazing team that brought ‘Ride & Dunk’ to life. We look forward to more shared moments in the near future—perhaps right on the roads of the upcoming Tour of the Alps.”
