The Tour of the Alps kicks off with its traditional challenging opener - a 148,5 km stage through Trentino packed with notable climbs. Rolling out from San Lorenzo Dorsino, riders tackle a gentle ascent towards Andalo before enjoying a smooth, sweeping descent.
Then, the route winds through Val di Non and Val di Sole, gradually gaining altitude before the day's main challenge: the Campo Carlo Magno climb. This steady ascent gains 900 meters in elevation before riders sweep through Madonna di Campiglio and down to Pinzolo via a series of wide hairpins.
A 27-kilometer stretch of favourable terrain follows along the valley floor until the race hits the Passo del Durone. These twisting switchbacks could see an initial selection, which is likely to continue in the final 9 km, a steady but irregular climb to the finish line in San Lorenzo Dorsino. With 2 km to go, the gradient steepens, with inclines between 7% and 8%.
